This is me and my dad. I was a bridesmaid at my cousin's wedding and I loved this dance with him. Looking over pictures recently for my Fun Bio Video that I created, I was taken back to my birthday of that year. We had a tradition in our family. Every year we asked what we were getting for our birthday and we were given the initials at the beginning of our birthday month and we had to work out what it was. That year I was getting a BBR. What the heck was a BBR? I guessed, I guessed, I sampled different phrases. No clues were allowed. I just got told it was a BBR. You know what it turned out to be? A Bugs Bunny Radio Yep, this is what my BBR looked like. I was soooooo happy with it when I opened the wrapping paper. I found radio stations that I loved and I whiled away the hours sketching Bugs Bunny (oh if only I could find that sketchbook with all my snoopy, charlie brown and bugs bunny sketches!) This whole BBR thing got me thinking about my birthday coming up soon in July. I literally woke up one morning having this downloaded in my brain. BIRTHDAY BEAUTIFUL "What's that?" I asked. "It's your very own 10 day journey to your birthday - go start writing it." "Oh that's cool!" said I. And here we have it. My very first 10 day online journey called Birthday Beautiful. So happy to be doing this. Want to join the journey? Sunday 14th July to Tuesday 23rd July I have to be honest, I wrote this 10 day journey for myself, first and foremost. I wanted to re-create that feeling of anticipation and excitement, self care and self love. Those days of guessing what I was getting as a gift really sparked this off. It made me ask some questions to myself and ultimately I'm asking you: 1. Do you plan for your birthday? Or are you hoping it comes and goes really quickly before you notice it? 2. Are there big ideas looming in your head of how you will 'be' on your birthday and then it turns up and you don't 'feel' like doing them? 3. Does your birthday hit an anti climax? What I see when I'm talking to women is we hurriedly prepare something, perhaps moreso for others. We don't really truly think about what we want.
More importantly, can Birthday's guide us to feel Beautiful on other days? Do we have to wait for that ONE DAY to celebrate? I have been pondering these questions as my birthday rears her gorgeous head again this month. I'll be 45 and it's quite a big milestone for me. Sometimes I feel sad on my birthday, it's an undercurrent; I'm not a sad person, but underneath the layers, there's a benchmark that I haven't met - the benchmark of not being a mum. I'm pretty jolly and bubbly, but I sometimes wonder if I let this take over my birthday, so instead of feeling joyful and celebrating that I'm happy, alive, contented and doing what I love; I get a niggle of lack of achievement. I don't want that for my birthdays anymore. So I'm putting heart into this new 10 day online journey to give ME the chance to plan that special day and to give YOU the opportunity to join me and plan yours too (or a special day of your choosing.) It all kicks off on Sunday 14th July and I will lead us through to Tuesday 23rd July. You'll receive an email prompt from me every day, which will introduce a new theme and idea, plus a little soulful creative task for us to do. We will have a space to hang out online in The Birthday Tent, a closed private Facebook group. Here we'll share the prompts and how they're feeling, what we're planning and how we're getting closer to our Special DAY. You don't need to have a Birthday, make this a SPECIAL DAY and follow the prompts and creative activities. IT'S TIME! Join me. It's £10 for 10 days £15 if you join with a friend (who maybe celebrating - what a cute gift) I would love you to be part of my first online programme. If you have any questions, let me know. But in the meantime, why not tell me in the comments what traditions you have to Celebrate your Beautiful Birthday! Till next week.
